Earth Day ft. The Candy

This image is made by The candy as a sweet gesture

Today is Earth Day and I am bringing you a very special blog to draw your attention to this important day. I will share some facts, that are educational as well as informative.

But, not just that, I also have a poem to share; written by The Candy. This is my first official collaboration and I’m super excited to share her poem with you guys.

Let’s start with something interesting first:

Canada’s Hudson Bay has less gravity as compared to the rest of the world. You won’t float there but you will weigh less there, so if you want to see less weight on the scale without a workout and diet, visit that place.

If we talk about specific places then rainforests are another significant place on the Earth. Rainforest is home to more than 2 million species of animals and 170,000 of the world’s 250,000 plants species.

But, most of those species are on the verge of getting extinct and not only that, but harm to rainforests is causing harm to the environment as well.

Global pollution is a serious problem, with around 5 million deaths every year due to it.

Pollution is not only limited to the land and air but also to the oceans.

This means there are still many species that are yet to be discovered, but we may never know about them as oceans are getting polluted as well and it’s affecting aquatic life.

It has been found that by 2050, ocean plastic will outweigh all of the oceanโ€™s fish.

It’s okay to be disturbed by these facts, that means you are bothered with this and want a change. You can bring a change by “Investing in your planet”. Like switching off the electricity when not using it, not wasting water, sharing a ride or using public transport. Avoid using plastic and also avoid littering on the road. Stop burning trash and be more aware and respectful of the environment.

“Invest in our planet” is the theme of this year’s Earth Day, you can be a part of it too by respecting the environment and caring about the planet.

So, these were the facts that I wanted to share with you. My main intention is to make people aware of the importance of this day. But, don’t wait for Earth Day to bring the change instead, start today to protect the tomorrow.

Hey wait, this is not the end of the blog. I talked about the poem by The candy and don’t go anywhere without reading it.

A planet so round and clear
Like a ball of shining marble
Looks like a blue star from space
That glows and sparkles

It holds beautiful mysteries within
Wanting to be discovered
Like a blank canvas
Which is yet to be coloured

The beauty of nature here
Is as pure as a young maiden
From rich valleys to deep forests
With greenery laden

The flowing rivers and
The deep oceans
Are all beautiful shades of blue
Mixed together with different emotions

The different mountains
New or old, high or low
Standing so boldly
Covered with snow

But will these miracles of nature
Be able to survive?
Not choking to death
Till the end of time?

The flowing rivers
And their beautiful shades of blue
Are all turned into black
And dark coloured hues

The greenery is vanishing
As the forests being cut down
And its cries could be heard
In the form of thunderstorms

The mountains becoming weak
The glaciers are melting down
Our Earth is warning us
For the danger that's around

But... it's never too late
For our Earth is like a mother
Who would forgive us?
Even after we made her suffer

So let's promise
To not let her down
For she is a rare diamond
Of the galaxy's crown...

We should say the same to the Earth but we don’t deserve to ask it to be happy when we are polluting it so much…

    _____

There’s a potentially serious hazard in theocratically-inclined people getting into high office with their dangerous disregard โ€” and even contempt โ€” for the natural environment.

In the midst of yet another unprecedented Amazonian rainforest wildfire two summers ago, Brazilian president and evangelical Christian Jair Bolsonaro declared that his presidency โ€” and, I presume, all of the formidable environmental damage he inflicts while in power โ€” is โ€œfulfilling a mission from Godโ€.

Unlike the rainforest โ€” home to a third of all known terrestrial plant, animal and insect species โ€” what matters to Bolsonaro is the creation of jobs, however limited or temporary, and economic stimulation, however intangible the concept when compared to the grand-scale, consequential environmental destruction.

Closer to home, many of Canadaโ€™s leading conservative politicians, not to mention our previous prime minister (i.e. Stephen Harper, close friend to Postmedia’s then-CEO Paul Godfrey), are/were ideologically aligned with the pro-fossil-fuel mainstream American Evangelical community and Republican Party.

They generally share the belief that to defend the natural environment from the planetโ€™s greatest polluters, notably big fossil fuel, is to go against Godโ€™s will and therefore is inherently evil. Some even credit the bone-dry-vegetation areas uncontrollably burning in California each year to some divine wrath upon collective humankindโ€™s โ€˜sinfulnessโ€™.

  10. This is an excellent blog post. Devang, and very appropriate for Earth Day. You make some really good points in this post. I agree with all of them. I like your images and the animated images too. Do you design them yourself? They’re very effective and emphasise what you are saying in a very clear and straightforward way. I find them very helpful.

It’s really frightening, what we’re doing to our planet. We have only one planet Earth

Yes I make them, I think these images are excellent way to express. Many people don’t read the blog but these images provides the necessary information.
Yes we have only 1 planet and it’s dying slowly daily. Individually everyone should contribute in saving the earth.

      1. It’s okay, Devang. I did find your comment in my spam. No idea what it was doing in there as you’ve left me comments on my posts before without any difficulty. Very odd. And you definitely haven’t done anything at all to disrespect or upset me. I always enjoy reading your blog and commenting on what you’ve written about. May I ask why you think you’d disrespected me? Honestly, you have done nothing wrong at all; quite the opposite. Take care and have a great day. Ellie ๐Ÿ™‚

  11. I’m sorry, Devang. I just posted a long reply about your blog and about Planet Earth but only half of my reply has appeared for some unknown reason. It was rather too long to remember everything I said. It’s so annoying and frustrating when that happens, isn’t it? Sorry about that.

I don’t know about long comments, probably wp has some policy of truncating the long comments.
Many times it sends comments into the spam for unknown reasons.
But anyway, I am so happy to see your comment, I really respect your precious time ๐Ÿ™‡๐Ÿปโ€โ™‚๏ธ

Ugh. Been there, done that. So many times in fact that I’ve learned to spot when I’m making a particularly long comment… and I copy-paste what I’ve written into notepad, continue there, then copy-paste the lot back again when it’s done. Just in case. Fortunately, though, I’ve not been hit by this ‘disappearing comment syndrome’ for a long while now. I suspect that it could have been a browser bug that’s been fixed (I use Firefox).
